Hello, hello, 1989
performance with voice

Note / This is the very first work, although initially Van Warmerdam did not know it would be her very first work. During a stay in New York she gave a lecture at Yale University on her interests at that time. As an introduction she came up with a loop that begins with the words: ‘Hello, hello, hello, hello, hello…’, after which she continued her lecture with ‘Thank you all for coming. My name is Marijke van Warmerdam, and I am from Amsterdam, Holland’.

voice, performance, slides, sound objects in wooden box
41 x 20,5 x 8 cm

Note / Choice is a sound box that was made for a lecture Van Warmerdam gave in Frankfurt. She believes that a lecture with slides can be soporific. That’s why she collected sound boxes that can imitate the mooing of a cow or the quacking of a duck, among others things, with which she can keep the listeners awake.
