Note / The CCA in Kitakyushu invited Van Warmerdam to make an artist’s book. She took her inspiration from The great wave off Kanagawa, a woodcut by the Japanese artist Hokusai in which some small boats defy an enormous wave, with Mount Fuji in the background. A world-famous cliché image, which she used for a proposed office diary. This sixteen-metre-long concertina-type diary indirectly refers to the Japanese scroll; one side of the diary is written in Japanese and the other in English.
