Note / As a result of the nomination for the Prix de Rome, which involved a cash prize of ten thousand guilders, Van Warmerdam decided to take a small crew to Morocco and make a film about ‘seeing and being seen’. A camera was set up on a tripod in the middle of the Jemaa el Fna Square in Marrakesh and within a few minutes a large group of people had gathered around it. The camera started rolling and the group of onlookers was filmed from the centre out.
